日本家屋部の構造はとても特徴的で、屋内の柱を減らすために半分から奥が鉄筋コンクリート構造になっており、前面の木造の部分の強度をすべて部材内にワイヤーを通して奥側の鉄筋部に引っ張って持たせてある珍しい構造となっております。見事な一本柱と組子の欄間、柾目の秋田杉の天井板などが印象的な美しい座敷では、秋の紅葉時には茶会も開催されます。また「群馬県合気道総本部山徳道場」として日々稽古も行われております
山田徳蔵も剣道師範として陸軍熊谷連隊への指導記録があり、武道を通しての社会貢献と心身鍛錬の精神は今も引き継がれております
こちらの縁側から眺める庭園が最も美しく見えるよう徳明園は作庭されております。雨の日も雪の日も徳蔵は引き戸を開け放って景色を楽しんだそうです
御来園の際にはこちらの縁側に腰かけて、当時徳蔵が眺めた同じ景色をゆっくりとお楽しみください
地下は防空壕となっており当時「やんごとなき」身分の方の為に用意された「模範的民間防空壕」です。現在途中までではありますが見学も可能です。徳明園内に秘密の入り口が２か所ありますので見つけてみてください
The construction of the Japanese house is
very
unique: in order to reduce the number of
pillars needed, the back half is made with
reinforced concrete, and the strength of the
wooden front half is pulled through to the
reinforced concrete part with wires inside
the
material. In this beautiful house, with one
central pillar, patterned ranma (transom),
and
an Akita cedar ceiling, they often hold tea
parties during autumn. The building also
serves as 「the Gunma Aikido Federation Head
Dojo（Yamatoku Dojo)」, and practitioners
train
here daily.
There are records of Tokuzo Yamada serving
as
a Kendo instructor for the Kumagaya Regiment
of the Japanese Army, and this spirit of
contributing to society and training one’s
body and mind through martial arts has been
passed down to the present day.
Tokumei-en is designed to look its most
beautiful when viewed from the balcony of
this
building. Tokuzo supposedly kept the sliding
door open even during rain or snow to enjoy
this scenery.
When you visit the garden, come sit down at
the balcony, and enjoy the same view that
Tokuzo did all those years ago.
The bomb shelter comprising the basement is
the standard civilian bomb shelter that was
made for important people in that time
period.
You are allowed to visit it, although only
part of the shelter is open currently. There
are two secret entrances within Tokumei-en,
so
try to find them.
徳明園中央部に位置する洞窟観音創設者「山田徳蔵」が晩年を
資料館では、企画展の開催のほか常設展示として山田徳蔵にゆかりのある軍人、皇室、政治家の徳蔵に宛てた直筆の書簡や書、絵画などの資料を分かり易い解説と共に展示をするとともに、徳蔵自身の携わった事業の記録をご覧いただけます
特に「近代漫画の始祖」と云われる「北沢楽天」とは親交が深く、「徳明園」の名付け親でもあります。記念館創設の動機ともなった徳蔵宛ての手紙（展示中）には「楽天山徳明園（洞窟観音の別名）は私にとりて因縁浅からず・・」と述べられており、所縁の作品が多く展示されております
新潟県柏崎市出身の徳蔵が「縮布」の行商から立身、呉服商・貿易商として莫大な財を築き、それらすべてを世の為人の為に投げ打ち洞窟観音を完成させました。徳蔵の駆け抜けたダイナミックな８０年の生涯をぜひ「山徳記念館」でご覧ください
In addition to the special exhibitions, the museum also has a permanent exhibition consisting of letters, books, and pictures sent to Tokuzo Yamada by soldiers, members of the Imperial Family, and politicians, along with easy to understand descriptions, and records of the businesses Tokuzo worked on. In particular, 「Rakuten Kitazawa」, said to be the father of modern Manga, was a close friend, and the person who named Tokumei-en. In a letter addressed to Tokuzo that was the inspiration behind establishing the museum (on display now), he stated that “Rakutenzan Tokumeien (another name for Doukutsu Kannon) is very important to me,” and many of his pieces are on display at the museum. Born in Kashiwazaki, Niigata, Tokuzo began as a chijimifu fabric merchant, before making a great fortune as a kimono maker and trader.
