5 Yuge Kannon

The seated figure is not sitting in the typical lotus pose, as seen in the usual seated meditation, but in a partially cross-legged, relaxed style with one leg bent and seated on a freely moving cloud.

This somewhat stylish seated Kannon statue has been exquisitely crafted by Rakuzan Takahashi out of granite (“Obiro stone”) from Uonuma, Niigata Prefecture, his hometown, along with clouds formed with lava from Mt. Asama, making it a truly impressive work among the repertoire of Doukutsu Kannon statues.

This wonderful Kannon statue conveys the idea of opening the mind and enjoying life with a sense of fun as we work towards our goals.
