26 Rokuji Kannon
This Kannon stands on a rock with a sutra in her right hand. “Rokuji” refers to the traditional division of the day into six equal parts (morning, middle of the day, sunset, early night, middle of night, and late night), with “rokuji” being collectively used to describe this cycle. This implies that this Kannon compassionately looks over and protects sentient beings all day long, without rest. This Rokuji Kannon is among the most beautiful works created during the height of the career of the artist, Rakuzan Takahashi, and is the crystallization of his effort and technique.
The soft and delicate work brings peace to the viewer. It is as if the garments are poised to sway with the slightest movement of the air. This Kannon is believed to impart occasional good fortune and helps things go according to your wishes.
