24 Tarason Kannon
This Kannon wears a white raiment and rides atop a cloud. Also called Tara in Sanskrit and “rescuer” in Chinese translation. The goddess Thala is regarded as a central goddess of femininity in Hinduism.
This was a very popular goddess in India since ancient times, but in Japan, out of the 33 Kannons worshipped since the Edo period (1603-1868 CE), only this Tarason Kannon remains.
Her right hand is placed in her robe and her left hand is under her chest. She is regarded as a goddess of mercy, saving sentient beings and bringing them to the other shore, as well as helping with childbirth.
